My love to Cinderella

If you grew up in the 90s, you'll always come across a list of Disney Princess beside of Elsa. And by the time you're grown-up but yet to be adult you should probably see this quote across the web saying "Disney should be sued for making every girl believe there's a Prince Charming", because until today, my little nieces will come and tell me she will married her Prince Charming and go live Happily Ever After in the Palace, and she's 7.

However, after watching the makeover of Cinderella in theatre early this year, it reminds me once more why as a kid I had loved Cinderella more than ever. I could probably be the only kid that doesn't go through the process of liking Snow White, Ariel then Belle; until lately I finally understood why my love for Cinderella doesn't change throughout the year.
Your graceful and sophisticated presence impress everyone you meet. People are always struck by how unfailing kind you are, and you inspire them to love themselves more, too. You're a stalwart believer in the Power of Love, and you spend each night dreaming of your Happily Ever After.

But another fact is, you have been working this shitty, low-wage job for years now and no one appreciates you. You actually have a lot to offer the world, but you'll be toiling away in unpaid jobs until the day you die, because people (stepmother) is evil and likely jealous of your beauty / youth. Even though you don't need a man to complete you, it would be really helpful if you could get someone to help share rent for a year or two until you can finish what you are doing and finally get out there. Until then, you're going to be doing menial labor and being paid a pittance, all while dreaming of the day your fairy godstylist comes along and gets you into a nice Diane Von Furstenburg dress.

But best of all, Cinderella resembles what we face in reality today. This princess doesn't spend her whole story getting waited on, she spends her time primarily cleaning, cooking and playing maintenance man for her household, essentially her struggle becomes her strength because she uses her experience to learn how other have lived their entire lives. Plus, Cinderella like all of us is looking for a night out, if we could meet Prince Charming that would be a bonus, but girls are mainly there to find a good time, not a lifetime.

I couldn't deny that Cinderella is one of the best Disney Princess even though some of the social details are outdated, yet she's someone who took the step to pursue a new experience for herself. She did not set out to latch onto a man or run away from all her problems, she just stepped outside of herself to create a new life. Most importantly, Cinderella teaches us that even the most beautiful dream ends, a beautiful fairytale that completely relates to reality.

Don't just lose your glass slipper, have the courage to love too.
